With the kids out of school — or off at camp, freeing up a weekend for the grown-ups — summer is prime time to plan a visit to the Shawangunk Wine Trail. Bring the Kids — No Doggies Please
• Angry Orchard (Walden) A great pick for families thanks to its Cider House setup, with storytelling, a Tree House to explore, and an in-house kitchen.
• Applewood Winery (Warwick) A relaxed, family-welcoming stop for an afternoon out.
• City Winery Hudson Valley (Montgomery) Family friendly, with the polish and programming City Winery is known for.
• Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery (Warwick) Another solid family-friendly stop along the trail.
• Magnanini Farm Winery (Wallkill) — Known for big, family-style Italian feasts, four to six course dinners with house-made gnocchi, ravioli, and salami. A natural fit for multi-generational visits.
• Benmarl Winery (Marlboro) Family friendly, though not currently set up for pets.
• Christopher Jacobs Winery at Pennings Vineyard (Pine Bush) Family friendly, off the beaten tourist track but worth the detour. Not pet friendly.
• Brotherhood, America’s Oldest Winery (Washingtonville) Family friendly, and pets are welcome outside on the grounds, even if they can’t join you in the historic cellars.
Bring the Dog
• Stoutridge Distillery & Winery (Marlboro) Pet friendly, though not set up for kids, a good pick for a grown-ups-and-dog day on the trail.

A Few Tips Before You Go
• Call ahead. Pet and family policies can vary by season, by event, and sometimes by day — a quick call or email confirms you’re set before you arrive.
• Bring the essentials. A leash, water bowl, and waste bags go a long way for dog owners; sunscreen and a few snacks help with little ones.
• Pick up a Wine Trail Passport. It’s a great way to plan a multi-stop day without overcommitting to one tasting room if the kids (or the dog) need a change of scenery.
• Designate a driver. With several stops in a day, having a sober driver means everyone — two- and four-legged — gets home safely.
