What is the Shawangunk Wine Trail?

Established in 1990, we are a collection of wineries located in Ulster and Orange counties in the Mid-Hudson Valley region of New York State.

Where is the wine trail located?

Starting 60 miles north of New York City, the Shawangunk Wine Trail is accessible from the New York State Thruway at Exits 16, 17, and 18, and can be approached from south of I-84 at Warwick and Washingtonville and from north of I84 at Marlboro, Pine Bush, or New Paltz. View on Google Maps

What are the hours and locations of each winery?

Click here for a complete list of our members and their locations, hours and info and FAQ. Click here.

Is there a map of the wine trail?

Yes! A printable wine trail guide which includes a map can be downloaded, click here.

You may also request a hard copy via mail by sending your request to info@gunkswine.com

Does the wine trail provide transportation?

We do not provide transportation. However, we are partnered with some of the regions best transportation services. For a complete listing of our Transportation Partners click here.

Do I need reservations?

Yes and no. Although each winery has different group policies, if your group is 10 or more, we recommend making reservations with each winery to insure that they are appropriately staffed for your group and can accommodate parking. Generally, you do not need reservations for groups smaller than 10.

How do I plan a group wine tasting tour?

First, you’ll need to know how many people will be in your group, what wineries you plan to visit and the duration of your visit. Second, designate a friend or family member as a designated driver or contact our transportation partners, click here. Allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the wine tasting experience. First, and foremost, please be responsible!

What is a ‘wine tasting?’

A tasting consists of a half ounce to one ounce of different varieties to sample. Tastings are meant to help guide you to the wine/s you would like to purchase.

How much do tastings cost?

Prices vary at each winery, generally $3-$15 per winery, per person, and includes 3-10 different products at each winery, and may include distilled spirits and hard ciders. Some specialty wines, spirits, with limited small batches may have an additional charge.

Are there other things to taste besides wine?

Yes. Our trail also has cideries, distilleries and a meadery. Some offer NYS beer by the bottle.

Do any of the wineries sell food?

Yes! It’s always important to pace yourself while doing tastings. Stay hydrated with lots of water and don’t forget to eat. We always suggest calling first for hours or availability. Here’s a list of wineries who offer food.

Are their lodging accommodations located along the wine trail?

Yes. From quaint and cozy BnB’s to national hotels chains, we have you covered, literally. Click here for a complete listing of our lodging partners.

Are the wineries handicap accessible?

Some are and some are not. For a listing click here. Certified Service Animals are welcome at all locations.

What wineries pet friendly?

Some are and some are not. For a listing click here. Certified Service Animals are welcome at all locations.

Can I bring my children to the wineries?

We discourage bringing babies and small children to the tasting rooms. Each winery has its own policy on this. It is best to call the winery first and ask.

Is the event ever canceled?

Events are never canceled, even winter ones.

Are wineries open when there isn’t a scheduled wine trail event?

The wineries all have different hours of operation through out the year. Some close for the winter season until spring, while others remain open or have a seasonal schedule. It’s best to check the wineries web page or social media page for hours before visiting.

Are the wineries open to the public during a wine trail event?

Yes! All of the wineries on the trail are open for regular business during wine trail events, but you will not receive any of the event items, such as a souvenir glass, the food tasting, wreath, ornaments, etc..
Be sure to check the wineries page for hours before visiting. Please note: The Hudson Valley Wine Tasting Passport is not valid during SWT events.

Can I purchase event tickets at the wineries?

No. Advance tickets for all Shawangunk Wine Trail events are only available online. Please note that all ticket sales close on the Thursday prior to event date, unless noted in event description. There are no ticket sales at the door.

Can I purchase a Passport at a winery?

Yes. Passports may be purchased while supplies last during regular business hours at these participating member wineries: Angry Orchard, Applewood Winery, Baldwin Vineyard, Benmarl Winery, Brimstone Hill Vineyard, Brotherhood, America’s Oldest Winery, Clearview Vineyard, Demarest Hill Winery & Distillery, Magnanini Farm Winery, Whitecliff Vineyard.

We recommend contacting the with the wineries first to check availability, just in case.

You can always purchase a Passport online 24-7. Please allow 5-10 business days for delivery.

I lost my Passport. What do I do?

We can mail you a replacement Passport. To begin the process, you must contact us at 845-256-8456 during regular business hours (M-F 9am-5pm).

Do my tickets include transportation?

No, the tickets do not include transportation; however, we are partnered with some of the regions best transportation services. You may also designate a driver. For a complete listing of our Transportation Partners click here.

Are my tickets only good for one day?

The two-day event tickets are good for the entire weekend, with one visit per winery during event hours. We also offer a Sunday only ticket, which is good for that day only during event hours. Some try to see all in one day, and others spread it out. We always recommend making a weekend of it to experience the wine trail and all it offers to its fullest!

Why must I choose a starting point and why is it important?

A starting point is where you will check-in to the event, pick up your event items; glass, wreath, ornament, and other items specific to each event. Starting points also help us manage the flow of people, to enhance your experience, without too many bodies crowded into one winery all at the same time.

Can my ticket be refunded, returned, changed or exchanged?

Tickets are non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for another event. If the event is 2 weekends, it cannot be switched for the other weekend. The ticket, however, can be transferred to another person if you’re unable to attend. To begin the name transfer process, you MUST contact us at 845-256-8456 during regular business hours (M-F 9am-5pm) within 72 hours of the scheduled event.

If I purchase a ticket for an event that is 2 weekends, can I go the other weekend rather than the one I purchased?

No. Each weekend has a specific amount of people that can be allowed in order for the wineries to be able to prepare the right amount of food. If you switch, you or another attendee may not get the promised items from the event.
